Exploring Creativity and Precision at Couture Arts Fashion Academy: My Second Class Adventure
As I stepped into my second class at Couture Arts Fashion Academy (CAFA) on Monday night, excitement and anticipation filled the air. Armed with a set of patterns from Spotlight that I had purchased over the weekend, I was ready to delve into the world of garment creation. The choices before me were intriguing - Vogue Patterns asymmetrical skirt (V1850), Vogue Patterns high waist trouser with waist tie (V1873), and the New Look coat (6397) that was selected in the previous class. After a brief discussion with my tutor, we decided to embark on the journey of crafting the asymmetrical skirt - a design that promised both elegance and a touch of complexity.
The first task at hand was to examine the measurements on the pattern envelope and decide on the desired fit. Collaborating with my experienced tutor, we concluded that the waist (yoke) should be sized at 20, while the skirt itself should be a size 16. This meant we had to make meticulous adjustments to ensure a perfect and personalized fit.
Armed with a fabric protractor, we carefully measured the length of each skirt section (back, left, right) against the corresponding yoke sections (back, left, right). These measurements were crucial in achieving a harmonious and well-proportioned garment. Once the measurements were determined, the next step was to shorten the yoke to match the skirt's length. With the guidance of my skilled tutor and a touch of magic, we made precise pencil markings to make the necessary adjustments.
The process of tailoring the pattern to my specific measurements not only added a layer of customization but also served as a valuable lesson in the importance of precision in garment construction. The attention to detail and collaborative decision-making between my tutor and me created a foundation for a garment that would not only fit well but also showcase the skills I was developing at CAFA.
As the class concluded, my mind was buzzing with possibilities. Today, I plan to embark on another exciting chapter of my fashion journey - shopping for the perfect fabric. The asymmetrical skirt design opens up a world of possibilities, and I'm contemplating the use of leatherette for a modern and chic look. The questions of style and colour are dancing in my mind - should I go for a classic black, a bold red, or perhaps a trendy metallic shade? The fabric shopping adventure promises to be a delightful exploration of creativity and personal style, further enhancing my experience at Couture Arts Fashion Academy.
