Trousers are a husband’s best friend!

It it has surely been a wild sewing month!

Since finishing my first garment of my asymmetrical-pleather skirt, my husband Greg had initially asked me to make him a new casual shirt. Whilst I made a start with a practice collar while finding time to pick out the shirt pattern and measure him up, he shifted gears and decided to give me an even tougher challenge in making him a pair of trousers that he can wear to work.

I mean, if I can successfully make myself a skirt with a difficult material as pleather I mean, surely a pair of trousers can’t be that hard. Throw in my decision to take a break from my classes at Couture Arts Fashion Academy for term 3, I had 2 make up classes to close out term 2 to at least make a good start on this pair of trousers.

I was thankfully able to merge two of these make up classes to one full day Saturday class where I was able to get ALL of my pattern cutting done and make a good head start on sewing the trousers.

With optimism on my side, I bravely continued sewing the pair of trousers at home. It did come time to start sewing on of the zipper only to realise that my machine didn’t have a zipper foot so was put on hold until my monthly salary came in to purchase a new zipper foot for my machine. I of course took this purchasing opportunity to stock up on some essential sewing supplies such as spare bobbins, universal needles, leather needles and top-stich needles. I was still working with the needle that was on my machine and was the only one that I had.

With my zipper foot acquired, I was now ready to continue sewing these trousers. I have joyfully spent the last three days finishing off my husband’s trousers and just in time for him to start back at work on Tuesday. He can now proudly say that his husband made his trousers for him… lets just hope they don’t fall apart on him… :P

Finished trousers… I have no idea what has happened to that left pocket…
